Rainforest events in Sarawak 2009
Malaysia is divided into Peninsular Malaysia or called West Malaysia
and East Malaysia which comprises 2 states, Sabah and Sarawak. Sarawak
is the largest state in Malaysia. The prominent Iban tribe resided
there and they are famous for their traditional dance, the Ngajat.
Sarawak is the home to the multi racial and multi cultural community
and colourful ethnicity with more than 30 ethnic groups, each with its
own distinct language besides Malay, Chinese and Indian. The majority
of the people are non Muslim and they are free to practice any
religious. Kuching is the capital of Sarawak.
Come and visit Sarawak during 10-12 July 2009 to enjoy the Rainforest
World Music Festival.
This event is organized by Sarawak Tourism board
to introduce this living museum known as Sarawak Cultural Village to
the world. Musicians will come from all around the world to gather here
to celebrate a fusion of nature, culture and ethnic music.
Where is this Sarawak Cultural Village?
It is located on the foothills of legendary Mount Santubong which is
about 35km away from Kuching (Sarawak’s capital city). This living
museum depicts the heritage of the major racial groups in Sarawak and
conveniently portrays the respective lifestyle amidst 14 acres of
equatorial vegetation.
Visitors can see Sarawak’s ethnic diversity at a glance. Besides that,
cultural performance such as songs, dances and entertainment are
something that you shouldn’t miss out during your visit here.
On the other hand, conjunction with the celebration of the Rainforest
World Music Festival, Sarawak Tourism Board also wishes to introduce Rainforest World Crafts & Bazaar which will held from 8-12 July 2009. It will be held at the same venue-- Sarawak Cultural Village.
The main idea of having such an event is to showcase quality crafts to
a large number of visitors from around the world in a comfortable
well-equipped venue. Fellow artisans from around the world will join in
with the craftworkers of Sarawak. The purpose of such events is to use
materials, both traditional and modern, and traditional skills enhanced
by competent modern design, to produce quality crafts such as songket,
textiles, sunhat, basket etc.
