Labuan International Sea Challenge (LISC)

The annual Labuan International Sea Challenge
(LISC) will be coming soon.
It’s a popular event where competitors will
have fun and frolics on the high sea off Sabah.
This year LISC will be
held from 28 April – 3 May 2009. During these 6 days of events,
International participants will take part in a variety of competitions
as follows:

a) Labuan International Game Fishing Tournament.
This event will be held throughout the 6 days at Layang-Layang Island. This island is an isolated atoll-like ring of 13 connected reefs in a 14 sq km area. Some called it as “Swallows Reef”. It’s only 7.5 km and 2 km wide of the whole island. It’s a good place for diving activities. The diving season starts from March to September.
b) Labuan Cross Channel Swimming Challenge
This event will be held only on 1 May at Papan Island. It’s a competition which sees competitors from all over the world set off on the return journey to Pulau Papan.
c) Stage Performance and Beach Tele-matches in support of LISC ‘09
During 1-3 May, stage performance and beach tele-matches will be organized in the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex which is located at the waterfront area along Jalan Tanjung Purun. It’s within close proximaity to Labuan town center.
d) Labuan Round Island Kayak Challenge
This will be held on 2 May where participants will take on a tough 50km (31 miles) course that hugs the coastline.
e) Kayak Sprint
On 3 May, at the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex, this event will be held to tests the competitors’ skill, strength and stamina over a 84km (52 miles) course across the Brunei Bay.
Labuan is located off the northwest coast of Borneo, north of Brunei Bay and faces the South China Sea. Besides the main island of Pulau Labuan, it also comprises six smaller island namely Pulau Kuraman, Pulau Daat, Pulau Rusukan Besar, Pulau Rusukan Kecil, Pulau Papan and Pulau Burung. Labuan is approximately 10km southeast off the coast of Sabah, East Malaysia.
